The Long Version:
If you're here, chances are you heard about Amazon's new Prime subscription for Young Adults, a different program than their Amazon Prime for Students one. If you're wondering what this program is about, who is eligible, and if it you can use the Young Adult Prime for a period of time and then the Student Prime later (or vice versa), you're in the right spot!
First, what is Amazon Prime for Young Adults?
Amazon defines a "Young Adult" as a person between the ages of 18-24, so it you're 25 and up, Amazon has officially decreed that you are now an Adult and no longer young. However, if you are a student and are the ripe age of 25 or older, you may still qualify for Amazon Prime for Students. Be sure to select "student status" as the verification method if you do not fit within the narrow definition of youth.
This prime offering gives you Amazon Prime at half the cost. Additionally, you can get a free 6-month trial if you qualify.
How does this differ from Amazon Prime for Students?
As far as this author can tell, the Amazon Prime for Young Adults program is identical to the Amazon Prime for Students program, except it uses age verification rather than school ID verification as its qualifying metric.
I have reached out to inquire whether or not a person can have Amazon Prime for Young Adults for four years and then have Amazon Prime for Students (or vice versa) afterwards, or if the programs are mutually exclusive. I will update this with my findings. My current gut feeling is that the 4 year cap will apply to both programs and they will not be stackable. My reasoning for this is because Amazon Prime for Young Adults is currently linked under Amazon Prime for Students. It does appear to be a widening of the program to those who do not go the uni route. If I'll update once I have my answer, and if you find out otherwise, feel free to let me know!
The Takeaway
As it currently stands, it appears to yours truly that Amazon Prime for Young Adults is Amazon's way of extending the benefits of Amazon Prime for Students to young adults (18-24) who choose to go another route besides college or university upon graduating high school and entering Young Adulthood. Amazon Prime for Students still exists at this time. If you qualify for one and not the other, the key is to choose the verification method that fits your qualification!
